![]() ![]() It's been an interesting journey getting to know the story, some of the characters and, I'm sure, completely not getting many many in-jokes that a fan would enjoy! The play is in South London next week, Wednesday-Saturday. The play itself has been adapted by Stephen Briggs, who I believe was actually a friend of Terry Prachett's and I think they may have even worked on the adaptations together, or at least, they were put together with the author's blessing. We are doing a production of Wyrd Sisters (I play 'Fool') next week and I was just asked to reach out to some forums and online groups to spread the word, in case fans would be interested in seeing the play. ![]() The idea to put on one of his plays came from a member of the cast and the director. I, personally, don't know all that much about Terry Prachett (I understand this admission is probably quite a faux pas on a Terry Prachett fan site!). I will come completely clean, as I don't wish to be a troll, in this world or elsewhere more disc-shaped. ![]()

Charles and Mary Lamb appeared to have anticipated the enormous growth in the popularity of Shakespeare in the nineteenth century, when the book was one of the best-selling titles. Tales from Shakespeare has been republished many times and has never been out of print. Nevertheless, the retelling of the Lamb siblings remains uniquely faithful to the original and as such can be useful to children when they read or learn the plays as Shakespeare wrote them. ĭespite its original target audience, "very young" children from the early twenty-first century might find this book a challenging read, and alternatives are available. ![]() Marina Warner, in her introduction to the 2007 Penguin Classics edition, claims that Mary did not get her name on the title page till the seventh edition in 1838. However, subplots and sexual references were removed. They omitted the more complex historical tales, including all Roman plays, and modified those they chose to retell in a manner sensitive to the needs of young children, but without resorting to actual censoring. Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies. Tales from Shakespeare is an English children's book written by the siblings Charles and Mary Lamb in 1807, intended "for the use of young persons" while retaining as much Shakespearean language as possible. ![]() ![]() William Carlos Williams called the Roche translation of Antigone "brilliantly successful.as spirited and powerful as the original must have been." Roche's versions of the Oedipus plays are both stunning and sympathetic, awe-inspiring and intimate, and bring the elemental myths of ancient Greece to life for modern readers. In vivid, poetic language, he presents the timeless story of a noble family moving toward catastrophe, dragged down from wealth and power by pride, cursed with incest, suicide, and murder. Revising and updating his classic 1958 translation, Paul Roche captures the dramatic power and intensity, the subtleties of meaning, and the explosive emotions of Sophocles' great Theban trilogy. ![]() A collection that includes the complete texts of Sophocles' Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigonetranslated by Paul Roche. ![]() ![]() Some of my writing buddies make fun of me for this, but I have gotten really good at being able to write anywhere. It’s still a romance, it will probably make you cry, and I’m hoping some parts make you laugh as well. When done on a large enough scale, clipping has the effect of devaluing and debasing the currency and, in the case of the Cragg Vale coiners, their operation was so extensive that their crimes came to the attention of the Prime Minister and the King, far away down in London town.
